Askives – A Search Engine to Get Straight Answers!

Most search engines spew out results in the form of links to other pages which they have indexed. The results depend on the keywords used to search for information. For example if you are searching for who directed a famous movie, chances are we come across a Wikipedia or IMDB link for the movie and then get the information, after click on the links.

Askives, gives direct answers to questions asked without just pointing to useful links.

 Guys, it’s our turn now, Confussed????   I’m saying about the the recent achievement of an Indian IT firm, it’s none other than“EPIC BROWSER” launched on 15th july (Thursday).  Yup, a Bangalore based IT firm “Hidden Reflex“ has come up with this concept of ‘Browser for Indians’ on Mozilla Firefox Platform in partnership with several other Big Commercial Giants of India. They have launched Epic browser which has extremely good features and aims at making Indians all over the world proud. Epic, which also happens to be the first entirely Indian made web browser, based on the popular browser platform Mozilla Firefox. A new entrant to highly competitive browser market leading by Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera and comes with quite a bunch of India centric features. Before we look at the details, let’s look at details about Hidden Reflex, the company behind the browser. It’s Named as Epic Browser.

The company was founded by the then U.S. based Engineer Alok Bhardwaj in 2007. However, the company is currently based in Bangalore. They initially had a team of three members and have now grown to quite a bunch of people who are working on two separate products. The first one, Epic, has already been launched. The other one is still in the making.

Internet in India is becoming familiar and closer to people and is used on a very large scale, mind you many India students were now crazy about Internet and are settling in the web based jobs. Thousands of people today are accessing internet in India for variant purposes like Education, Entertainment, Blogging, Jobs etc. But India being a multilingual country, with people speaking different languages in different parts of India, so Epic is surely going to be a very useful browser for the Indian users especially.

Presently 3 browsers were leading in the race and are fighting for the No1 place i.e. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, its not going to be easy to participate in the competition with these browsers. The best example is Maxthon browser which is released for giving competition for these 3 giants. Choose and Add Web Apps for Your PC with ALOT Toolbar

Web apps have changed a lot with more and more people using add-ons instead of toolbars. This is mainly because most toolbars are limited in its scope and add-on allow a variety of functions from managing Facebook, Twitter and even your email accounts.

How to Encrypt All Your Data on Chrome Browser!

For Chrome users like me, it’s synchronize features are very useful and it ensures that when I do get on a new computer for work, I can simply sync all the extensions and bookmarks with my browser from home. All I need is a Google accounts.
With Chrome OS, getting a lot of attention with Chromebooks, it makes sense to have all your data synced from browser to browser. After all Chrome OS is a glorified browser anyways.
But is the data that is synced safe? With Chrome all your passwords which are synced get encrypted by default. But that is not the same with all your data on Chrome. I found out on a blog post, that the Chromium version of the browser has this option available.

How to Encrypt all data with Chrome?

• This option is now available with regular Chrome builds and you will need to install the latest Chromium Build. Just click on the installer link to start the download.
• Now right-click on the desktop icon for Chromium and look up target field. Type in “-enable-sync-encryption” without the quotes, as shown in the image below.

• Now open the Chromium build of Chrome (it should be a silver coloured icon of Chrome on your desktop) and look up personal settings (personal stuff) on your browser. Also sync your browser with your normal Chrome browser with your Google account.
• This can be accessed via clicking on the wrench icon and then Options. Another quick method is to type in “chrome://settings/personal” in the address bar of the browser.

• Under “Sync” options click on the “Customize…”  button as shown in the image above. This will open “Customize Sync preferences” on your browser.
• As you can see in the image, there is a new option to encrypt all data. This will Encrypt all your data instead of only encryption of passwords which is done on your Chrome browsers by default.

This is a novel idea from a security point of view, as we do want information stored in Autofill forms to be encrypted. Hopefully this feature will soon be available with the regular Chrome browser.

Remove write-protected error

When you see the above error while trying to copy files in your mmc card using card reader, then follow these steps, it will remove the error.

Code:

1. Run Registry Editor (regedit).

2. Navigate to the following registry key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control

3. Right click on control and create new key.

4. Name it as StorageDevicePolicies . (Copy and paste it from here if possible)

5. Now click on StorageDevicePolicies and in right side pan right click and select create new dword and name it as WriteProtect.

6. Double click on it and set its value to 0.

Now restart your machine and try copying some files to your card.

Hide partitions without using any software

1. Go to Start->Run.
2. Type DISKPART and press Enter.
3. In the console type list volume to see all the drives available on your PC.
4. Now select the drive which you want to hide. Suppose you want to hide D see the volume number opposite to Ltr D.
5. In My PC it is volume 4 for drive D(might be different in your computer) .
6. Now to hide drive D type Select volume 4 .(Select the appropriate number according to your system)
7. Then type remove letter d , this will hide your drive.
8. Now to get your drive back type Select volume 4 and then type assign letter d .
9. See this image.
10. (This normally works for all drives but may not work for system drives(The drive in which your OS is loaded).

Assign a Permanent Letter to a USB Drive

If you have multiple pen drives you might have noticed that every time you put in your drive it will be assigned a different drive letter.

This can be frustrating when trying to run backups or opening files from software as recent drive letter is changed. Even if you have created playlist of the songs which are in your pen drive it won’t work if the drive letter is changed.

Here are the steps you will have to follow to assign a permanent drive letter:-

1. Go to Start > Run

2. Type mmc in the box and hit enter.

3. Select File > New

4. Now select File > Add/Remove Snap-in.

5. Select “Disk Management” and click “Add”

6. Select “OK“.

7. Select “This computer” and then “Finish”

8. Now press “OK” on the “Add or Remove snap-ins” screen.

9. Now select “Disk Management” from the left menu.

10.You will now see all of your drives/partitions in the right hand side panel.

11.Right click the USB drive you want to assign a permanent letter to and select “Change Drive Letter and Paths…”

12. Click on “Change”

13. Select a permanent letter

14. Click “OK”

15. It will warn you about making the change - there is little chance programs you use will be affected by this. If they will, you will probably already be aware of this so don’t worry.

16. The final step is to select File > Save and save the file in the default directory. Close the Console and you are done.

Now eject your usb drive and put it back in and see whether it is showing the assigned letter or not.

How to remove programs not listed in "Add/Remove Programs"

This problem can occur if the program you installed creates a registry key name that is longer than 60 characters in length. Add/Remove Programs only lists program names it locates up to the point it encounters this situation. Follow the steps given to solve the problem.
